After Cleaning and Rinsing

After Cleaning and Rinsing

Quite possibly, one of our affiliated professional contractors has left a tri-fold brochure at your house with an estimated cost to clean your roof. If that is the case...your house probably has those ugly black stains that occur roughly 5 years after a roof is installed. The algae growth that causes those unsightly areas is the first of three steps in accelerated roof deterioration. Odds are, that the underlying shingles are still in good condition...as long as you don’t wait too long.

Lichen growth (light green lacey looking growth) feeds on the roof algae. Growth of the lichens is the beginning of the end for the shingles. Lichens attach themselves to the mineral surface much as they do to rocks, crumbling and eating into the surface of the shingle. Further stages of deterioration occur with the growth of green moss, with roots actually penetrating those areas initially weakened by the algae and lichens. We can still clean the areas with lichens, although some “poc marking” of the shingle may be left behind them when we rid them Once the moss growth has started, you are on an unfortunate accelerated ride towards a new roof!

SO...what does all this mean? It means that cleaning the dark algae off of your roof before lichens and moss grow can extend the life of your roof by as much as 10 years...for about 10% of the cost of roof replacement.

The best thing of all? You’re house will look great again!
